Since day one, every time I click to update Ooo writer I get this:

"Could not establish network connection to update36.services.openoffice.org."

Is this a dead link?

Moderation probe1: moved to SETUP AND TROUBLESHOOTING section, since this is not a WRITER related question

If you would have done a SEARCH of the forum, you would have found e.g.

I thought maybe there would be a new reply... Like "We're busy removing all the icons and options that make it LOOK LIKE OOo has update capability. LOOK LIKE it is responding to you."

Failing that to add "yet" to your cryptic reply.

If it doesn't work, hide it!

Here are all volunteers answering questions.

No developers around this forum... your barking the wrong tree.
