|

Hello,
I an new to Linux as am migrating from Micro$oft.
I just finished to install kde 3.3.1 on a Gentoo 2.6.9 platform and am at a point where I need to install i18n form kde language customization.
I did some research on the Internet but it seems a bit confusing for me.
Therefore, I decided to ask support as first time Openoffice user.
Here is my question:
In the past, with Microsoft Office XP I was able to install the
Multilanguage Pack wich would add complete support for different languages.
If I would be typing in English and then change to French and then to
Italian, it would automatically adapt and make corrections based on the
language used. Also, fonts was part of the pack.
Can you please explain me, in a simple way, how to accomplish so, if openoffice allows it? My starting point is i18n. For now, to allow installation of other
applications, I will install i18n with LANGUAGES="it us" Then once I find the answers,
hopefully soon, wich explain the steps for making sure that I can have this running I
assume I can modify the LANGUAGE and other locales and reinstall i18n.
I hope I will be able to solve this issue because I wish to install
Openoffice.
My current system is all in US English. My native language is Italian. My
desired languages to have with Openoffice, are at least: French, German,
Spanish, Greek, English, Italian, Latin.
Thank you so much for your assistance .
Have a good day,
Spiro |

Resetting language:
If you only want the spelling dictionaries, go to File -> AutoPilot -> Install new dictionaries (you must be connected to internet). If you want a different language for the interface, this is not possible yet.

Hi and thank you for your reply.
All I need is spell check, thesorus, dictionary, translation all these when I type a document.
I do not need anything else. Software interface is English.
You mentoned "Archivar -> el Piloto automático -> Instala diccionarios nuevos "
- Will this all take care of it?
- Do I have to set any particular USE flag in my (/etc/make.conf) prior to installing ooo?
Thank you,

Sorry!!! I usually check the spell with an on-line translator (I'm not a native english speaker) and did a wrong copy paste!
I'm so shamed...
I mean File -> Autopilot -> Install new dictionaries. These take care of all spell dictionaries, hyphenation and thesaurus.
PD:
Edit: I corrected the previous message. |

It's OK. I appreciate all your help.
Good, I got it. So, I will just install ooo regularly and then perform, with Internet connectivity, the dictionary adds.
One last question: I am aware that there is a customized/optimized or a version of ooo for kde. Is this true? If so, please can you tell me how to find the program name or version, as I will just need to "emerge <filaname> in within gentoo? This way I wil go ahead and just install it. Also, are you aware of any particular USE flags to declare prior to installing ooo?
Thank you,
Spiro |
