Word.doc opens as graphics or picture format No Text edit.

Hi..

Wonder is anyone could assist!.

I've been using both Open office and Libre office for sometime now with
no real problems.

However I've been sent a document thats proving to be a pain. When
opened it comes up with a logo and the organisations name at the top
like a preset bit of graphics. In the middle there is some editable text
like where you could change this to put your name and organisation etc.
However when opened this comes up with a very small flashing cursor
right at the top left side and if you begin typing yes you can do text
but its very small and in one font and you cannot move the cursor at all
either by the mouse or the up down Side to side keys on the keypad.

If you click on it then it comes up with a picture editor toolbar on the
top left hand side and a strange cursor like a cross with arrows
thereon. If you right click your mouse another screen opens thats got
what looks like page formatting things paragraphs etc but no way can you
get a cursor on it to edit the text thats already there on the document.
Its also got small Green square dots at the top and bottom and sides of
the page.

The sender sez it works fine on their copy of Office;!.

It seems to me that its a set up problem somewhere or a mode problem
that needs changing anyone any ideas please?.

Is that an OOo or a MS Office file?

The orignal was a MS Word (Office) file. I'm told it "can" be opened in both OO and LO but it seems theres something that has to be "enabled" in Both of those progs in order to make it work!.. This whatever it is isn't enabled in either version of those Two progs OO and LO I have!. I've looked but I can't see anything obvious.

Any update, or workaround for this issue? I am experiencing the exact same problem with multiple word documents. Originals are MS word .doc and open fine in MS Office

LibreOffice 3.4.4 OOO340m1 (Build:402)

Hi,

As you can see the user was asked to upload his file and then there was silence.
Without seeing the file there is no update.

If you have the same problem the you should upload your file so we can have a look.

If your file contains sensitive information, you can make a copy and in the copy replace the content with garbage - use Find/Replace with Regular expressions turned on, then replace [a-z] with x and [A-Z] with X, [0-9] with 0. Check if everything has been replaced - maybe things like captions are skipped.
