My Open Office Writer shows me a blank status bar. I have tried searching for many troubleshooting options but to no avail. My OS is Windows 7 Home Basic. Help requested.

Many thanks for the prompt response. I followed your suggestions to the letter. (For a newbie, I was proud to have even merely done that much!).
However, the problem still persists. Anything else we can try?

Re-install or repair install (run the install file again, at some point you are offered to do a re-install, repair install or to remove the program, IIRC. The repair install may do the trick.
Just to be sure, did you download from a legitimate source, like www.openoffice.org ?
