I'm writing a book right now, and I have a problem getting it to format how I want it.

Each chapter has its own separate heading (which is suspended on the first page of each chapter). Is there a way to consolidate each chapter of my book into one document that will retain its individual chapter headings.

In other words, the heading on each page of chapter one reads, "Chapter One: [Chapter one title here]," except for the first page of each chapter, which has no heading.

Is there a way for each chapter to keep its own distinct heading yet consolidate it into one document?

The alternative is to keep each chapter separate, but now I have a problem with the page numbering.

Each chapter (as a separate document) numbers its pages starting with 1. Obviously, I can't consolidate this into a book with every chapter starting with page one. Is there a way to make the page numbering start with a different number? If so, how can I do this?

So, if Chapter One ends with page 30, how do I make Chapter Two start with page 31?

I hope you can understand my question. I want to write a book and I want each chapter with its own distinct page headings (and suspended on the first page of each chapter), and I didn't know how to do this, so I created each chapter as a separate document.

Is there a way to consolidate this into one document?

Try Tutorial on Page styles and headers/footers.

If your problem has been solved, please edit the first post in this thread and add [Solved] to the title bar.

Thank you very much! This tutorial looks like it's EXACTLY what I needed.
