| Saving large documents in OO formats takes too long. Even saving of 100 KB document takes a few seconds. The problem is, I believe, that OO's format is actually zipped XML directory. So, to avoid wasting time I prefer to save large documents in formats different from OO format, like MS Office formats xls and doc, or StarOffice 5 formats. I checked the preview of OO 2 (1.9.65) and the newer OO 2 formats. The time to save a document is not any better there. I doubt that the current OO XML format is useful for documents larger than a couple of pages. I am not XML expert but probably a better solution would be the unzipped XML format like it is done in other open sources word processors |

And your purpose in telling us this is? Possibly there should be an option to avoid compressing the files.. however, I wouldn't waste any serious development time on it.
Since you already voiced your opinion to the forum here:

Maybe you should tell the developers about your ideas here:

Personally I can wait the extra few seconds. And thus avoid saving a file in a format that may need to be reconverted. Many of my OOo Impress files are half the size of M$ files.
| Quote: | | I doubt that the current OO XML format is useful for documents larger than a couple of pages | XML is an industry standard and the files can easily be read with a text editor. The standardized structure assures that convertors for whatever applications we use in the future will be availble...and FREE. If you prefer the "secret" (proprietary) formats pandered by M$, they are much easier to use when you quit trying to make OOo work like Office and simply use that software.
If this is a troll, it doesn't belong here....and I bit _________________ Rick B.

Try installing 1.9.69 or newer!
I think that saving and loading was improved dramatically with 1.9.67...
Suddenly performance (saving and loading) was improved like I was in a dream; do you experience the same? _________________ www.kaaredyret.dk - OpenOffice resources (templates, extensions, tutorials and more) !

Why, I don't know

| I installed 1.9.69. It's even slower than 1.1. I have W2K machine in my office. Probably on Linux it's different. I did qucik test. In my test savig in XLS and HTML formats takes about 1.5 sec, SXC and ODS take about 5 sec.Saving in DOC and HTML formats takes 1 sec, SXW and ODT take 7 - 9 sec. |

Weird! It is 10 times faster on my ooold W2K machine and on my fast laptop with XP.
On a pc at work, it is also much much fast (XP).
Both ODT and SXW files were saved this fast. I'm happy now! _________________ www.kaaredyret.dk - OpenOffice resources (templates, extensions, tutorials and more) !
