I'm not sure if this answers your problem or not. But if you RIGHT click on the quickstart button (the seagulls down at the bottom right of the screen) you get the option to open an existing file or a new document of any kind. It's the way I usually start OOo. _________________ Howard

Carl,
try to do a Repair with the Setup.exe from {installdir}\OpenOfficie1.1.3\program
That might help.
DiGro
BTW: did youfirst the -net install and then a workstation-install ? |

Perhaps your copied defaults are causing OOo to behave strangely. Have you tried doing a fresh install of OOo without your custom defaults?
You didn't say what you were executing to load OOo. Are you loading the Writer component when this problem manifests itself? |

I'm not quite clear what you mean by "installed from the net". Having downloaded and unzipped did you run ..../setup.exe -net from the unzipped folder? I.e do a server installation (you must add the -net switch at this stage)? Then, for each individual user you run setup.exe (without the -net switch) to install a workstation version - including the admin account if you really want one there.
It does sound to me like a faulty installation - I've been there in the distant past! It may be a case of "if all else fails read the instructions" in this case the setup guide! _________________ Howard

it seems a re-install is called for. i tried repair but was asked for the installation cd., so somethings missing. everything else seems okay so i guess i will wait for OOo2 and download that when its ready.
thanks anyway _________________ carl
