|
|
Hi. In a cell in a table in Writer, I enter =18.5*35 expecting the result to be 647.50 (the cell is formatted for -1,234.12). The result I get is 6,475.00. If I enter =18*35 I get the correct result of 630.00. =0.1*10 gives me 10. The decimal point seems to be being ignored.
If I put the 18.5 and the 35 in separate cells, and refer to them in another cell, like =<A1>*<A2> I get the correct result, but I don't want to do that.
What is going on, and how do I get the correct result?
Thanks in anticipation of your help.
Leigh

Hi. Did I express my question badly? Or offend the Forum? Maybe no-one knows whether it is possible to do what I want or not? Or is it that no-one can imagine why I'd want to do it?
I simply want to put a calculation that includes decimal points into a cell in a table in Writer. But if I enter "=18.5*35" into a cell, I get "6,475.00", not "647.50". Why?
Hmmm... |

Sorry, this was overlooked for quite a while. Please note that the forum isn't visited as often as it used to be, and most mods are busier deleting spam than answering questions. I can confirm your problem: it seems that OOo will interpret input based on your locale settings - so I have to type 18,5*35 to get the desired correct result 647.50 in text formatted as English (US), merely because I'm Dutch and set Dutch as the default input language (Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages). _________________ LibreOffice 3.6.3; OOo 3.4.1 on Windows Vista

Thanks, I appreciate your answer. Interesting, as my settings are
User Interface: Default English (USA)
Locale Setting: Default English (Australia)
Decimal Separator: Same as Locale Setting (.)
Default Currency: Default - AUD
Default languages for Documents
Western: German (Germany) **** Not sure at all how this was set. I don't use German, 'cos I'm not that clever.
And when I changed it to..
Western: English (Australia)
you'll be amazed to learn that now my input works as expected.
So, thanks again. Problem solved. |
