I've got my chapter headings set up as Heading 1 style, with numbering format set to include the text "Chapter ", and then show the automatically generated number. So there is no actual text selected; the only text displayed is automatically generated (e.g. "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2", etc.)
In Tools->Outline Numbering, Level 1 is assigned to paragraph style "Heading 1".
In Insert->Indexes and Tables->Entries tab, I have Level 1 highlighted.
But when I click OK, no table of contents is generated.
Is it possible to auto-generate a TOC from styled text of this kind?

Quick and dirty test in LO suggests you need something in the heading. Just a space or two seems to work
