I've installed OpenOffice on two PC's. Most files open but I have one Excell file that opens on my desktop but not on my laptop. I get an error "General input/output error"
When I take my thumb drive back to my desktop, the same file opens fine. I'm running Windows XP on both PCs. Any ideas? |

Possibly some really weird read/write problem with the first machine? If you can, try the file on a third machine.
I have never seen this with a thumb drive but have seen it years ago with a floppy drive.
Other than that not a clue.

| Also, weird things happen sometimes when opening files on removable media. Did you try to copy to local/networked storage media and open the copy there? |

I've copied the file to the local hard drive and it still doesn't work. I gave up. now I have a new laptop and Microsoft Office.
