do you mean numbers?
how about doing it in calc?
cell a1 = 1 (or a date perhaps)
drag down the cross in bottom right corner of cell
copy and paste unformatted list of numbers into Writer. _________________ carl

"List of figures" is usually a cousin of "Table of contents", I think; in which case, the answer is to select Insert > Indexes and Tables, then use the styles tab to specify the style you've used for the figure-captions. The initial keyword in the online help is "tables of contents; defining entries in"

I mean
I have a lot of figures (gaphics) that are JPEG files ...
and they have captions
I want to create a list of figure ...
I do that by going to add table of content and then I add user-define -- graphics
but the table will be GRAPHIC 1 ... and so on ... and not the caption of the figure |

As already mentioned here is what you do and it depends on the caption style you used (illustration or drawing). In this example I used drawing with my captions.
Insert/Indexes and Tables/Indexes and Tables...
Change type to "illustration index"
Check the create from and check "Captions" is checked.
Now set the category to illustration or drawing
Set the display value (generally leave it on the default)
Tweak any other parameters as required.
