Hi folks
I have a problem in numbering .. I want my headings to simply look like the following:
1. USA
1.1 New York
2. UK
2.1 London
3. France
3.1 Paris
Where USA, UK and France are formatted as Heading1. New York, London and Paris are formatted as Heading2. The problem appears starting from London. The text looks like the following:
1. USA
1.1 New York
2. UK
1.1 London
3. France
1.1 Paris
I don't know why Heading2 doesn't want to following Heading one in numbering !!! any clue where is the problem ? |

That should work so let's try in a new document.
Do Tools > Outline Numbering and set Level 1 & Level 2 to 1,2,3 numbering in the Numbering box. For Level 2 set Show Sublevels to 2.
Does it work now? If not, what OOo version and OS are you using? |

| Also make sure that the Heading 1 paragraph style is still assigned to outline level 1 and the Heading 2 paragraph style is still assigned to outline level 2 on the Outline Numbering dialog. With the default settings for Outline Numbering in OOo 3.1, the numbering you want should appear just by selecting the headings and clicking the Numbering button. That should automatically add the numbering settings in Tools > Outline Numbering. The only way I've been able to duplicate the numbering you are seeing is by first removing the Heading 2 paragraph style from outline level 2 on the Outline Numbering dialog. If Heading 2 is not assigned to outline level 2, then the numbering for Heading 2 restarts at 1.1 after each Heading 1. |
