|
|
I imported a document from ms word.
The links to chapters within the document work perfectly (cursor jumps right to the appropriate heading) but the chapter reference doesn’t display the chapter number.
It looks like this:
(see Chapter 0.0)
Any help?
Thanks,

Does it also happen if you manually insert headings from OOo and add new references ? Sounds like references were broken during the import process.
Are the heading correctly numbered ? Chapter 1.2 for example. _________________ An OOo mascot designer |

Sorry, I think I have a problem with chapter numbering at all.
Yesterday, I received another document that I need to work on. The chapter numbering and the references in this text work fine. I noticed a difference in the status bar.
In the "good" document, when the cursor is at the chapter title (heading 1, heading 2 ...) the status bar doesn't display anything. I figured out that this happens when the numbering in the paragraph style is selected to none and in the object bar the numbering is off.
In my "bad" document the numbering in the paragraph style is selected to list 1 and the numbering in the object bar is on. When the cursor is at the chapter heading and I click the numbering icon in the object bar the chapter numbers change every time and I don't understand what is going on.
I suppose the problem with the references is most likely connected to the principle of numbering the document.
What is the right way to number the chapter of a document, so I can link the chapter headings as references? Probably, the problem of adding the chapter numbers to the caption of the figures would be solved, too?
Hopefully, this is not too confusing…
So many thanks,
Isa |

You have to use the outline numbering tool. Referencing chapters is kind of buggy in OOo as modifying a chapter, inserting a chapter... won't update the reference ! For example if you have a 2.3 chapter and you insert a chapter before... The chapter becomes 2.4 chapter... But the reference to it still points to 2.3 chapter !
You might find the Cross References : How To Setup and Use Cross References document by Ian Laurenson helpful. _________________ An OOo mascot designer |
