| I have tried to insert images in Impress. it seems to work at first but then on returning back to slides, the image placeholder is empty. Linking the images do not improve things. |

I had the same problem with Writer, where did the images come from: some copy-paste or a real "insert" through the dialog?
The latter seems to work well, since it really embeds the image in your file, while the first seemed not to work since it only links a file that is stored in my windows temp directory, which is of course cleared a few days later.
So, if you copy-pasted this picture, just try inserting it using the insert-graphic-fromfile dialog (this required the picture to be located on your local disk indeed)
Hope this helps.

Whether I copy and paste or insert or link I still find that the image is often lost - simply a placeholder with the graphics name in it.
Is this a known bug ?

Yes, this is a bug in OO 1.1.
Did you create the presentation with the AutoPilot ? The AutoPilot creates a presentation with password. The password itself is empty, so you don't get asked when opening the presentation, but the pictures can not be decoded.
Just do not use the AutoPilot, and everything should be fine. |

Is there a way to find out about possible patch?
I'm using OO heavily for presentations, while everyone else working with me is running Powerpoint under Vmware, so this undermines my efforts to make people use OO. Not to mention that it's extremliy annoying.
I wish to knew more about programming to fix this myself.

Easy workaround: Tools --> Options --> Presentation --> General, there disable "Start with AutoPilot".
If you want to use designs, use Format --> Styles --> Slide Design --> Load. I usually use "Duplicate slide" when I create a new slide, so I have the same design on the new slide.
I think the the next version should have fixed this, it can't be that hard to remove the empty password from the AutoPilot ! |
