Hi everybody,
I am a relatively new user of open office. I have a problem on a document made with writer, everytime i am pressing enter, open office automaticallly inserts the Chapter number at the beginning of each line. How do you switch this feature off?
I don't understand as i just saved my document, and this problem arised when i reopened it. That is hours that i am trying to figure out why, and it's start to be quite frustrating!!
Thanks for your help,
Jeremy |

Hi Jeremy,
It appears that you have given the text a "Number/Bullet Style"
Just select all the offending text.
Right click on the selection
Click "Bullets/Numbering" from the popup menu
Then click "Remove" at the bottom of the "Bullets/numbering" styles window.
HTH
Cheers

No problem. Welcome to OpenOffice.org. Stylist is one of it's most powerful features once you get used to using it, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.
Any more problems or questions feel free to fire them in.
Cheers

Well as you're asking, i do have another problem,
this one concern the page number... my report is divided into 2 parts, the first one being the 'preface' (i.e. acknowledgement, abstract, table of contents..) and the second one being the default (i.e. the report with the different chapters)
I am trying to insert a page number with a roman numbers (I, II, III, IV) for the preface and normal numbers (1, 2, 3) for the report. For what i have read and understand, it seems that i have to apply a page style such as preface and then to define the required footer.
Unfortunalely, when i am trying to apply it to the current page, it applies it to the whole document. How do you apply it to the current page? the help just say that i just have to double click on the page style, but it does not work with me!!! I have then read on the forum that i need to insert a section as well.
So i start to be confused, what is the difference between a page style and a section? and when do i need to use them?
Thanks for answering my numerous questions,
Jeremy |

| Between your two section, do Insert -> manual break -> select "page break" and under "style" select "default". There you can also change the initial page number after the break |
