| I have written a template with a date field. When I use the templae for a new document, it has the day's date as a result of the date field. How do I stop this field updating itself every time I open the document? Thanks |

There are two types of date fields in OOo -- fixed and dynamic. Fixed is the default you get when you go to Insert>Fields>Date. To get a dynamic date your need to go to Insert>Fields>Other and select the one that just says "Date". The fixed date field is only updated the first time you first save your document and the dynamic date field will be updated every time you open the document.
Of course, this only applies to documents. Both types of date fields update automatically in templates (but if you create a document from a template, the fields will behave in that document as described above).
So, if you want to include a date in a template that will never change, don't insert a date field. Just type in the date.
