Hello!

I posted about two issues and have not received any moderator or admin feedback. One was in the Impress Forum. I also e-mailed the Impress Project directors and did not get a response. The responses I did receive were from other members who wanted to be helpful but did not really respond to my querys. I am requesting some help with these posts:

Google Summer of Code: How about these projects??
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=20786&highlight=

What needed to create something like MS Producer for OOo?
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=20786&highlight=

I enjoy OOo so I am not trying to complain. I am just looking for some meaningful information.

Thanks in advance for any or all responses from the OOoGurus.

SC

Thanks God by that!
Anyone here, including the moderators, respond questions in measure of what they know, and only for the pleasure of help someone. There is no way to anyone of us to know every single question possible: we do our best, and so the moderators.
If you don't find an answer here, maybe the reason is that no one knows that answer. Full stop.
On the other hand, moderators has an extra work: to moderate a really big forum. That means to clean spam, to organize post putted in the wrong forum and a large etc. They have a huge task, and there is no good in complaining with them (or with us, or with anyone) because they (or us, or anyone) don't know the particular answer to your particular question.
That's my point of view.

The person who owns this site works to keep it running smoothly.

He has given a number of users Moderator access.

Moderators are all volunteers. Some of us have limited time. The function of moderators is only to help keep things running smoothly, such as removing spam, and having the ability, if necessary, to edit/delete/relocate posts. (And changing Sticky posts into non-Sticky ones after an appropriate amount of time.)

As for as answering questions or replying to messages, anyone here is free to do that. Moderators may or may not have any special knowledge about OpenOffice.org.

If nobody replies, it probably means that nobody has anything to say.

I often find that people seem to expect me to reply. I don't know if other longtime users here experienced the same feeling. I could write a macro that would respond to every posting with "Sorry, I don't have anything useful to add.". But that would be silly. If I have something say, I reply. If I have nothing to say, I don't.

Moderators are just users, like everyone else. They just have capabilities to help keep the forum running smoothly.

RGB, you are right.
DannyB, some of them can do more than others. For example nice drawings (DannyB). Wink Or writing books (pitonyak) or are simple master of style and bibus (ftack) or ... .
Anyway. SweetC, your question will not be solved by any of the moderators. RGB described their task quite good. They will not start programming or doing something equivalent. The only way is to make a request to the developers of OpenOffice or to find some volunteers who will join you and start an own project.

Once upon time, I answered with a workaround instead of a "real" answer, and someone told me that he expected more from a super user... Confused

Well!

I see that I have been thrashed thoroughly while trying to get information. Maybe I should just phrase my questions differently since there appears to be moderators in this forum and I can therefore possibly get some help.

Does anybody know the answer to the following questions or where I can get answers?

You haven't been thrashed. It's just the way you are asking. Imagine that some people might be offended by your post even if it is not your intention (and I guess it is not you intention). However, you also won't get an answer if nobody has one. All of them have answered with the corresponding politeness in my humble opinion.

Wink

I think your second question was already answered in your other posts.

But DannyB, pitonayk, SergeM or anybody else who is capable of programming would you mind to give a short summary what is needed?

You have not been trashed. You have kindly been brought to the attention that people here are willing to help if they are able to help. That you do not have a response means no one feels he can help.

You have not been thrashed. I kindly explained:
1. what the owner of the site does
2. what the function of Moderators are
3. that anyone who has questions or answers, are free to post them.
4. that answers are an all-volunteer effort
5. Moderators are an all-volunteer effort

In short, nobody is thrashing you for trying to get information. You are free to ask. Anyone is free to answer. There are no guarantees of answers.

If you get no answers, it could be that maybe nobody knows. Maybe nobody took time to answer. Maybe nobody understood the question. I find that often I don't understand the question, or I can interpret the question in more than one possible way.

  • Who can I contact regarding the "Google Summer of Code"??

I do not know. If I did know, I would have answered the first time the question was asked.

Perhaps someone else knows?
There are no guarantees that you will get an answer, or if you get an answer that it will be useful.
