I have tried everything to get Writer to print envelopes. In 1.1.4 I was able to format my own page and keep the printer settings, since I had to tell the printer driver to print landscape. Ugly, but it worked (in Fedora, anyway). Now I'm using Ubuntu and OOo 1.9.something. My printer driver (Brother HL-2070N for CUPS) no longer allows me to use a landscape setting, and OOo refuses to recognize it as well. I'm back to using labels. Has anyone found a way to print envelopes without having to go through a ton of hassle? And no, Insert | Envelope doesn't work either. I wind up with the text rotated 90 degrees on the envelope. Even rotating the page doesn't do it. Is it my printer that's causing all this grief?
