Proper character count - is it really THAT hard?

No, no, this type of situation is exactly why the designers and programmers supplied us with Calc. Very Happy

Bhikkhu Pesala,

It would be nice if your simple solution (characters - words) worked but the character count includes many "printing" (black) characters that are not counted as words. As a simple example try something you might see here, "Do Insert > Frame". The ">" is counted as a character but not as a word.
