I am an MSOffice user, trying to switch to OOo, kind of cold turkey. My question is:
Comparing OOo to MSOffice, what exactly will I miss if I run OOo without java installed? Please give details as I am newbie with OOo and general comp terminology.
thanks! |

It depends on what OOo version you want to use. OOo 1.1 depends less on Java than OOo 1.9.x, and you can use the 1.1.5 version of the suite without Java installed. OOo 1.9.x relies heavily on Java, and without it you won't be able to use the whole Base module as well as different Wizards. What's worse, the missing Java 'link' will, in some situations, cause OOo to crash when it attempts to call Java. It really doesn't make much sense installing OOo 1.9.x without Java.
Kind regards,
