as I work the program looks as if it automaticaly is saving my work. It does this every few min. Is this correct? Is this a feature of OO. If so I have not been secure that its saving because the save button is still dark. Usually when I save my work the button gets shaded, this tells me that I can't save because because I just saved it. I'm not sure if this is clear or not but if anyone has an answear.

It has been sorta saving it. It saves a copy for it to auto-recover in case the program should happen to crash. You can go into Tools-Options-Load/Save-General and change how often (or even if) it saves if you like.
It doesn't overwrite your current document in case you get into it and then decide that you don't want the changes, you can always close without saving and have the original document back.
