Greetings,

I have a 29 page word document. Six of those pages are input fields that populate the rest of the form. For example, one field could be "shoe size"

Later in the document is a letter that is populated by the fields. For example, "We appologize that we don't have "shoe size" in stock, please..."

So, its one document with fields that are entered that populate the rest of the document.

Is there an easy way I can get this to work in Open Office?

Thanks!

Dave

You can't convert the fields directly but you can do the same thing in OOo.

You will find variable fields at Insert > Fields > Other (or Ctrl+F2) > Variable tab. I always use User Fields. If you want to save the doc as a template and be prompted for a field's content when the template is opened then define a User Field then use Input Field to insert it once only and insert it as a User Field in other places. Put another way, you can insert an Input Field version of a defined User Field which will trigger a query for its value upon opening a template.

A single click on an Input Field or double click on a User Field will allow you to change the content globally.
