Hi,

I have made some standard pie charts using data in cells, how do I get the percentage figures for each piece of data to show up either on the chart or beside the legend?

Also the same for percentage bar charts, where there is a single bar split up into percentages.

Not a problem if I can't as I will put it on manually by editing an image of the chart but would be nice and easy this way!

Thanks,
Matt

Have a look at the Help for Chart > Data Labels. It looks like it might do what you want. Calc is crashing when I try to edit a chart today so I cannot check it out.

Help will tell you
Choose Insert - Data Labels
Choose Format - Object Properties - Data Point/Data Row - Data Labels tab (for data row and data point)

Help doesn't tell you that the chart has to be selected for editing (i.e. not simply selected) I found that from frustration!

Insert - Data labels works well for me.

However, following the second pathway gives more control over individual segments. (per data row and point)

Happy hunting

Is there any what to format the percentages on pie chart data labels?

To me one of the main reasons for using pie charts is to present the data in a simple format, so I think it's too much to have 17,99%. That is, I think I should be able to present it as 18%. I find know way of doing this. Any suggestions? Is this possible?

The specific purpose of a pie-chart is to reflect portions of a whole, which is as you know 100 percent. The easiest way to round percentages is, I think, to do it in the spreadsheet and use the rounded numbers as Number in the Data Labels instead of percentage.

Yeah, I thought about doing that. But, I guess I'm still hung up in what I could accomplish in Excel, without having to do any extra steps. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

Yes, OpenOffice.org 2.4 adds choice of number formats for chart percentage values.

(This is an old post, but people search old posts anyway.)
