Using the help system of OOo for other Linux apps

For sometime now I was on the look out for a help system on Linux that would be as good as windows help system (chm).
The open office help system has all the features I was looking for
- Contents
- Indexing
- Search (most important)

Have any of you been part of building this help system. If so, can you provide me some inputs as to how I can build similar help system for other applications.
