Hello,

I have a task where I don't have any idea how to do it best.

1) I want to place a vertical text (the same) on the outer rim of every page. The place where it shall go is outside the main text area and the header and the footer area.
2) I want to place the page number outside the text and footer areas.

For both currently I use a frame. But I have to insert both frames by hand on each and every page.

Is there a way to get these frames on all pages without manually adding them?

In the properties of a frame there is the option to "mirror on even pages", which sounds helpful and sounds like it was fit for some automatic reappearance.

Can I attach the frames to a page style?

Any hints would be great.

Try creating the repeating vertical text as a drawing. Export as WMF and use that as a page background. See this page for some tips.

If you need to mirror the same object on alternating pages, just use different page styles for left and right pages, and place the graphic background on the opposite side.

I cannot use this as background since I am already using a full page background graphics.
And as far as I know there can be only one background, or can there be more?

Why not just edit the full page background graphic to include the text that you want?

If you want the text and/or graphics on some pages but not on all just use two or three different background images.

With version 2 you can repeat a frame anywhere on the page by inserting it in a header/footer. In the frame dialog make sure Follow Text Flow is not checked..

Actually I will suggest to understand positioning before touching header and footer, otherwise it could be a bit frustrating if you lack a good understanding of positioning. For example the type should (in most cases) be to page and you should understand the positioning dialog as well as it's anchor icon.

OK I also didnt know the thing with the follow text flow.
By achoring it to a "character" in the footer (even though the footer is blank) it does reappear now on the pages as I wanted it.
Using the page as anchor the frame is not repeated.
Is that normal or do I make a mistake somewhere?

I normally it let remain anchored to the paragraph which is the default, but whatever works. To page will not work because it takes it out of the header/footer where it must be to repeat.
