With file\properties statistics you get a basic word count. Many have said that it is inadequate. I believe that some folks have written macros to improve things - see other threads on the subject (probably under the macros forum).

I can see that the improved word count features a lot of us asked for is scheduled for OOo 2.0 now.

The word count macro written by ... works well. It counts the highlighted parts on its own and thats what I was looking for. Look for an older thread on this. I can see that we are talking ooo 2.0? When would that be made available?
