I'm trying to print address labels using an address database that I created in Base. I followed the directions given under help and it looks great. I get to the last step "In the data source view, select the records for which you would like address stickers, by clicking on the row headers to the left. Use the Shift or Ctrl key in the usual way to select several records at the same time. On the Table Data bar, click the Data to Fields icon." No matter how many different addresses I select either only the first label is populated or I get an full sheet of the same address.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Pam

Hi Pam,

It's nice to know some folks actually read Help before asking a question but in this case Help is misleading and gives rise to problems. Please try to forget what you read in Help and use the following instuctions instead.

They require that your address file be registered as an OOo data source but because you created it in Base it normally would be. Please note that these instructions do not include pressing F4 (so you won't see the Data to Fields icon) or using the Mail Merge wizard.

They are for creating and PRINTING labels as opposed to saving merged labels to a file.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
File > New > Labels

On the Label tab select the proper label type, select the database, select its table, select the fields one at a time and move to left. You can do some simple editing in the left window like putting a space between fields and starting new lines.

Go to the Options tab and turn off Synchronize. This is only needed if you are going to do special formatting after you click New Document.

Click New Document.

Click the Print icon and answer "yes" to the "form letter" question. DO NOT check the box in this dialog for "Do not show this warning again" or you will never get it back again short of a somewhat drastic procedure and you will want it back.

A dialog will appear in which you can use all records or select them. If you want to select records don't try to force the bullet, just select them with the gray buttons to the left. Click OK to print.

Before or after printing you can save this label "template" and reuse it for any records you want to select in the manner indicated above.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If you have partially used label sheets then you can use them up by opening the label "template" and then using the macro you can find here:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=21733
This is only good for one sheet at a time so don't expect to select a lot of records and use the partial sheet for the first X labels. In other word, do not select more records than you have room for on the partial sheet. In this case you could press F4, select your records, click the Data to Fields icon then print answering "no" to the "form letter" querry.

Hi John,
I'm going to presume to suggest that you submit these instructions to the Help project. I've never tried a merge (or read up on help for merging), but time & again I've seen poor confused users posting pleas for help and being rescued by a single concise post by yourself. (And others, of course) It seems that there's a real problem there (in Help) that could be resolved fairly quickly.

I like it! After recent comments in another thread I had some thoughts about how to spread this message, but discarded them for various reasons. This is much simpler (and more friendly) than anything I came up with - and probably more effective.
