|
|
Hello,
I downloaded a simple word document, 386k, that contains a few tables - I think it contains a few graphics. My virus checker says it is clean.
When I try to open the document in OO Writer, the CPU goes to 100% and writer takes whatever is not used by other processes.
I can open the document in WordPad - the content is a few Word tables - the text format is a bit "messy" in that there seem to be some "non-display" characters in the text, rendered as squares.
When I open the document in WordPad a pop-up dialog titled "Microsoft Word 97 conversion" says "Unable to load graphics conversion filter. Continue with document conversion Yes or No?" So at a guess OO Writer is having a problem reading a Word 97 document
I have a number of other MS-Word documents (some much larger) that OO Writer has no problems opening
Regards

My CPU gets to 100% use rather frequently - for example when I print a document or make a spell check in Word 2000- but not in Writer.
This seems to be a Wiindows problem, but I havenīt been able to find a solution to it.
I use XP SP2. |

Good point about 100% CPU
Again, I forgot to write that this 100% usage (c.97% Writer) persists.
The maximum I left it in this state was 5 minutes before I gave up and cancelled Writer using TaskMgr - so must be some kind of loop that taskmgr says is happening in writer

If it's an MS Word file then you can expect far higher CPU usage than with a native Writer file. The file translation is not as efficient as it is reverse engineered. _________________ Arch Linux

Understood
But maybe I did not mke clear, the 100% CPU for minutes only happens with one particular file - I have used Writer successfully to open quite a number of other MS-Word created files. They open in about 10 seconds
My question is: What is it about this particular file that causes this "CPU loop"? I can upload the file as it does not contain any confidential material.

Sounds like a bug in OOo... you should file an issue on www.openoffice.org and upload the file. _________________ www.kaaredyret.dk - OpenOffice resources (templates, extensions, tutorials and more) !

| I too received an error "Unable to load graphics conversion filter". The problem does NOT exist at work although at work I have a copy of Office 2000 also on my system. I was able to get around the problem a little by dragging and dropping the file into an open OOWrite document. However, the pictures did not load. |
