Hi all,
Hi all,
a new version of AODC is out. The new version will fix some little bugs.
There isn't really a new feature, but the speed and the generated HTML
is improved and all user should update to this new release.
I've also started a new poll on my website. With your vote you can
be involved into the new features of AODC. Some background info
to this. After the implementation of text documents and spreadsheet
documents is really sophisticated. I ask my self, if I should move on with
the draw document and the presentation document implemenation
or should I first implement RTF and PDF export. What's your opion?
Latest version of AODC:

At least thanks at all user for trying out AODC and posting resp. mailing
their feedback.
Cheers,

Hi,
generation of HTML documents into OpenDocuments is also planned,
but there are some other features with a higher priority which will be
implemented first.
Cheers,

Hi,
sorry, this is a missing feature, because charts have it's own
XML schema in the OpenDocument format and my underlying
OpenDocument library AODL doesn't offer chart support, yet.
Cheers,

Here is a feature request: output to and input from svg /svg documents
(svg 1.2tiny has a page attribute,
which makes it possible to use svg for documents.) |

| An invaluable addition to this tool would be the ability to batch convert MS Office files to their Open Office counterparts. I started using OO several months ago, and I still haven't succeeded in manually converting more than about 2% of my files. It is a long and tedious process for new users making the switch. Can you help? |

| D'OH!!! I did think it was rather odd that in all the web searches I made trying to figure out how to do this, that all I kept finding were instructions on how to batch convert the other way (from OO to MS Office)! Thank you! |

|
|
Hi,
This thread is quite old. Is AODL still being developed? I checked the website and sadly the page was last updated in 2006. Abandoned? Its seems like this is a tool that had great potential.
The one thing that is missing for ODF format is a good repair tool that can recover and repair corrupted ODF files.
I searched online expecting to find an open-source tool for repairing ODF documents, but could not find anything at all.
The only tools I could find for repairing ODF documents were the tools "Kernel for ODT Recovery" (NucleusData http://www.nucleusdatarecovery.org/odtrecovery.html) and "Open Office Recovery" (Systools http://www.msbackuprecovery.net/fix-open-office-document-software.html). Each application costs $30.
I am not averse to paying for these tools, but was very surprised to find that such important tools have not been created by the open source community. On open-source recovery tool SHOULD exist. If we want OpenOffice / LibreOffice to be accepted more widely, such a tool could play a crucial role. If a user knows that a free powerful recovery tool exists for ODF documents, then adopting the ODF format would make a lot more sense. Especially considering that a free recovery tool does NOT exist for MS Office.
Can anyone out there put out the word and encourage some brainy open-source programmers to produce such a thing? I can only help out with testing, and spreading the word.
Thanks! |

|
|
| For future editions of the Writer Manual, I would suggest using one large fictitious document throughout, as a visual aid and example, to illustrate each point explained. It could be a book with an index, a table of contents, footnotes, embedded outlines, imported illustrations, page breaks, html links, cross-references, styles, etc., in order to demonstrate how Writer can be used from setup to publication, to address every possible need in the preparation of the book, and to show at which point along the way each aspect should be prepared, to avoid problems later on in the development of the document, for example. Perhaps an already-published classic reference book from the public domain would serve as a good example, provided it met these requirements mentioned above, and could be re-set from scratch, as if a new publication. |
