Well, I'm the de facto 'Computer System Administrator' in my small office with 12 staff and 8 PCs + 1 laptop. All stand alone. Am persuading my boss to set up a simple peer-to-peer network so that I can run my database on it and be shared by all of us in the office. Of course my collegue who is now using the salveged old junk will not be able to join the bandwagon...
I've got no choice as the motherboard is really, really old and can only take EDO Ram. God please help me to get some EDO Ram from the junk yard!!! I've to stripped it from other old PC which is beyond repair and fit the slots with as many as I can (well ... only 4 slots). We are running at a very tight budget. |

I've told her that the machine is not fast enaugh to carry new software like OOo or even M$O. As a matter of fact loading Win98 also took very loooooooooooooong (I hope this style of writting is not patented by Google?!) |

I'm replacing Office2000 on the fast computers (>400Mhz) on my small company. The old ones (P166/P200) are running Office2000 fast enough.

As to the -1200 pnts, my 500MHz 128MB SDRAM w/ Linux ran OOo just fine.. till I stripped it of everything to be a server. Hehe. _________________

Running it at home, stuck with M$O at work
Runs fine on my 433mhz Celeron. Takes about a minute to load, but runs fairly fast, provided I don't try and use any other memory-intensive apps at the same time. |
