Sure would like to get back into OOo. How do I get around the following problem?...any thoughts?
I'm trying to install OOo_2.0.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE.exe. Among its first steps is to uninstall 2.0 on this drive. It could not uninstall 2.0 and gave various dialogs...
>The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable<
2.0 is on this harddrive which is not connected to any supporting network.
>The path 'C:\....openoffice20.msi cannot be found<
Doing a search could not find it either.
Doing an Add or Remove Programs to uninstall 2.0 got the dialog
>The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.<
System Mechanic 6 could not uninstall 2.0. Running a 2.0 install on top of the existing installation hoping for a repair got the above dialogs.
Doing a manual deletion and a registry repair got me down to three uninstallable files
shlxthdl.dll, stlport_vc7145.dll, uwinapi.dll. Trying to install 2.01is blocked apparently by these dlls with dialogs of
>Error 1714. The older version of Openoffice.org 2.0 cannot be removed.<
and that it is looking for openofficeorg20.msi and that that file on the 2.01 package is not a valid installation. |

Hi,
this looks like that some uninstall information are lost or these information
are break through in incorrect installation. e.g. such uninstall information
are also needed if you try to uninstall an application via the software
in- and uninstall service of Windows. At least I think you should try to
install 2.0 again and after that retry to uninstall it. Hope this will work
Cheers

| Thanks, but I tried that before deleting anything; it failed with a dialog claiming it needs a resource on the network (which doesn't exist) and to find openofficeorg20.msi. Also tried a 2.0 install afer I deleted all the files I could; got the same failure and dialog and that 2.0 cannot be uninstalled. |

Hi,
sorry, but this was the only idea I have at this moment Maybe
an external uninstaller application could remove OO correct?
These programs often also clean up the registry and I guess there
is a broken key!?
Cheers

That's some of what System Mechanic does: external uninstaller and registry cleanup.
Thanks for your thoughts though. If I get a solution or find one, I'll post here. |

I am curious why you chose ot uninstall OOo2 before installing OOo2.0.1
I had the opposite case in whre I was able to install OO2.0.1 over OOo2.0 on WinXP Home SP2..
Okay, lets ask the obvious is it WinXP Home or WInXP Pro?
NAd is the drive that OOo was on a removeable drive such as maxtor usb removeable drive? |

Thanks.
When OOo installs a newer version, it uninstalls the older version. 201 failed to uninstall 200 and will not install 201. Then came the series of manual uninstall attempts in order to be allowed to install 201.
WinXP Pro SP2
The internal harddrive with OOo on it is the only one connected to this computer. |
