hi folks!

first of all: hi there! i work (as an it-consultant) with openoffice.org 1.0 since last june and i am quite happy with it. at the moment i am introducing it to some of my costumers.

i encountered the following problem:

one of my costumers has an excel-sheet with the adresses of his costumers. one of the fields is called "type": there are various kinds of "types", abbreviated like "BR", HK, "VAK" (whatever). most of these costumers are not only one "type", but 2 or 3 at once.
looks like:
name type
joe sixpack BR
jeff sixpack VAK
jane sixpack BR, HK, VAK
jack sixpack HK, EXP, VAK
jill sixpack HK

he has implemented a filter so he can find, lets say, all "BR"-type costumers. or, all "HK"-type costumers.
all "BR"-type costumers do not only include the "BR"-guys, but, of course also the "BR,HK,VAK"-people, or the "BR,HK"-group.
in ms excel, he was able to search (sorry, i am translating, i do work in german) via "costumized filter"
type INCLUDES BR

excel then listed all costumers with the BR-type.
the openoffice filter doesn't have this "include"-function. ha can just filter for "BR", then all his "BR"-guys are listed, but not the "BR,HK" ones.
even though it is possible to do a search like this:

type = BR
and type = BR,HK
and type = BR,HK,VAK

this doesn't help because he has more than 3 categories of "BR"-costumers (i counted 5, but of course, that could be even more, since he has 8 types of coustumers at the moment).

is there a solution to this problem? we are currently working with openoffice 1.0.1 german (and hoping for the german .0.2 to come out real soon...)

regards,
marillchen

I guess that this could be achieved with regular expressions, were it not that this remains broke, even in OOo 1.02.
If it would work, you would press the "more" button in the Standard filter dialog and check "regular expressions". Then, the criterium <Field name> = *BR* should select all records containing BR somewhere in the string. So the feature is foreseen, but unfortunately, it currently does not seem to work.
