Disappearing italics?

I'm translating a book where a character is keeping a diary, so the first line has the date in italics and the entry starts on the second line after a carriage return. For some reason, the italics in the first line seem to disappear between saves and reopens, text returning to no formatting when I return to typing a day later. Has anybody else experienced this? Should I post this on IssueZilla or is there a known cause? Using OOo 1.01 on Win2000.

I've had some similar problems under Win98. Sometimes, I align left a table cell, then I
save and close my write document. The next day, when I open it, it is aligned right...

I never experiences someting similar. I treid what you described on a Win 98 system and italics (direct formatting) remained after opening.
