|

hi there.
big trouble for me. i have 8 pages of dense university-information
and now i cant' open the file anymore.
i saved this file :
http://www.sprachtechnik.de/Erlangen.odt
with version 1.9.7 ( or something like that).
when i try to open the program says :
reading problem.
format error in styles.xml at position 2,2691
the same file as zip to download: http://www.sprachtechnik.de/Erlangen.zip
i think the cause of it could be that i used 2 unusual fonts
to display linguistic-glyphs. They are called „TITUS Cyberbir Basic“
and „Indo4 Doulos“
these are the fonts: http://www.sprachtechnik.de/fonts.zip
i really need to get this file back again. or it'll take me weeks to
put all the stuff together again.
can anyone of you guys help me? it's important.
thanx |

Writer makes backup files at intervals set in Options > Load/Save > General... unfortunately autosave does not seem to be enabled by default, so you may not have a .BAK file you can use.
Assuming this is an XML error, you might find help in this thread:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=20602
You can access styles.xml by changing your document's file extension from .ODT to .ZIP and unzipping the archive.
You can also get at the content in content.xml, but I'm too much a newbie to know exactly what to do with it... how to open it or work with it.
The thread above mentions a couple of XML editors, if you're into chasing down the error in Styles.xml. _________________ Dave |

I tried to repair it (styles.xml and content.xml needed some changes). It opens now here although some parts don't look that good. But I didn't install your fonts. Where can I send the file to?
With kind regards

Applause for the work, and it's not even my file!
I looked at Styles.xml, but not being in any way famililar with XML I could see nothing wrong at line 2 column 1690 (or whatever it was) --
what had gone wrong in the XML? _________________ Dave |

The inconvenience for OOo results from duplicate attributes. If an XML document contains inside one tag one attribute more than once, this XML document is no longer valid. And this causes the problem. So you have to remove all the duplicate attributes from styles.xml and content.xml, if you don't want to have the repaired document from me.
With kind regards

Thanks, hol.sten, but it's not my document.
I got interested in this because I'm a magnet for document corruption. About the third thing I had to learn in Word was the trick to select every part of a misbehaving file except the final paragraph mark, then paste it into a new doc...
And now I'm learning the ropes in Writer. I'm impressed so far and especially impressed by this community, for example, people like you. _________________ Dave |
