Hello,

I have a large document converted from the Redmond world to OO writer without any greater diffculty Very Happy . This document now consists of a master document and several smaller files containing chapter headers which are numbered according to the assigned format style. This looks something like:

2 Header_level_1
bla bla bla

2.1 Header_level_2
bla bla bla

2.1.1 Header_level_3
blabla bla blabla

Note the space between numbering and header text! If I update the whole document, the index also is updated, containing numbering of the resp. headlines. So far so good. The bad thing is that the list of headlines inside the index looks like:

2Header_level_1.................................
2.1Header_level_2..............................
2.1.1Header_level_3...........................

This is pretty nasty. I have tried several tricks to change the format styles assigned to the index levels, but the only succes was I changed the indentation of the whole line but was not able to generate a reasonable space between numbering and index entry text.
I've run out of ideas now. Any suggestion how to solve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Don't ask me why, but in order to fix the space, you need to call the right menu from the wrong place. Edit your TOC (right click -> edit index/table) In the index/table tab -> create from outline -> click the "..." button: a dialog in nothing different from the Tools -> outline numbering dialog appears. Adding spaces in the corresponding separators (before or after) will work also in your toc when called from there. No idea why calling it from Tools -> outline numbering doesn't work.

Right click in the index, "Edit index". In the "Structure" line (2nd tab = "Entries"), after the chapter number bookmark, you put a space or 2 or what ever you want. Repeat that for each level and it's done.

I translate it from a French version so it's perhaps not exactely the same option name.

Dear RGB, Hagar,

Thank you, although I have a German user interface I've found the right place.
This was really a great help!

Glad to have helped !

Don't forget to modify the title of the first post (add [Solved] at the begining) in order to warn people that :
1. your problem is solved
2. people with the same problem can easily find the solution.

Tschüss !
