Open Office, I think, is hurting itself.
How do you use Google to look for something OO related? Especially "Base" related?
I would suggest that "ooBase", or something equally....
unique
distinctive
self explanatory
unambiguous
... be trademarked.
I know a fair amount about Delphi (programming language), Paradox, 1-Wire (family of chips)
Most of what I know about all of them came from going to the internet when I was stuck. If you want to know how to set up a listbox with Delphi, Google and Groups.Google will rapidly take you where you want to be.
Seaches for the same information in an OpenOffice context are exercises in frustration, due to the lack of a good search term.
Please pass this idea on to anyone you know who is in a position to do something with it?
Please suggest alternative names if you don't like ooBase. (ooCalc and ooWriter already produce significant hits.)
This forum does a great job, of course, but I think we need a way for the splendid ooBase to enjoy conversation in wider arenas.
"ooBase" is, in fact, already a registered trademark... or at least so claim the writers of www.oobase.com, a purveyor of toys. Maybe they could be persuaded to "share" the name? Alternatively, ooDatabase may entail fewer conflicts.....
I have bought the domain name ooRDMS.com, to prevent someone else doing the same, and would be happy to transfer the rights to OO.org if they were interested.

I can not vote on this. The answer is 'no'. In what way would you want it's name changed? What are you looking for? _________________ Arch Linux

Maybe just use the prefix oo.oBase, oo.oCalc, oo.oImpress, oo.oWriter, oo.oDraw, etc.
I agree, if you are using a search engine to find information for Writer, or Calc, or Base or you name it, the name is fairly general and you get a lot of responses that are a bit less than useful. _________________ Ron from Iowa, USA |

You certainly CAN get good results... isn't Google great!... but if the product ("Base") had a less ambiguous name, perhaps you WOULD, more often, get even better results?
Google isn't as "intelligent" as it looks. For a start, if you ask for OpenOffice documents, it won't immediately include pages with references to "Open Office" (with a space).
Looking for "Listbox" information is likely to return good stuff.... along with ooBasic references, of course. Look for informtion on forms, tables, queries, records, fields, and the hit rate drops.
Would something like ooBase be a step BACKWARDS, even if it were not a step very far forwards??

There is also the fact that Base if fairly new, and there just isn't a whole lot of things out there for it yet. It will take a little while for the spiders to find those that are being posted now. _________________ Blog - http://baseanswers.spaces.live.com/ |
