When seeking help in calc I keep getting the following message. This displays on the right of the page and the calc help index displays on the left.
If I use the index I still end up with Could not find help page.
The initial help display is :-
Unfortunately the Help page you selected was not found. The following data could be helpful in locating the error:
Help ID: text%2Fscalc%2Fmain0000.xhp
We apologize for any inconvenience.
How can I resolve this problem ? It is only happening in Calc, Writer will display OK
Your assistance will be appreciated.

| Is a known issue: in some way, those help files were skipped in the 2.0.1 release. This should be fixed in 2.0.2 |

A ways down this thread:
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=122883
You'll find a posting by dmemt with a link to a working help file, calc.jar. In IE you have to right-click and 'save target as' -- then download and copy it over the calc.jar file in your OOo installation.
The folder (default settings) is C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\help\en _________________ Dave |

Many thanks for your quick responses. Looks like I will have to wait on updated version as when I clicked on link I was told after saving the item that it was corrupted.
Am awaiting dummies book so will keep struggling on.

I am happy to report that after following the thread "No help with 2.0.1" advised by DGehman I came across one from Noranthon who added a ps to his post.
PS. Just got this link from the Users' list:
http://web.mit.edu/ooffice_v2.0.1/distrib/i386_rhel4/openoffice.org2.0/help/en/
Over wrote the file and everything now works.
My thanks to everyone and I hope this additional info will assist

I've been trying to convince a client to use Open Office instead of MS Office and finally got them to let me install it on a new laptop I'd just put in for them. The first thing they did was start looking at the help files for formulas in Calc and got missing help file message we've been discussing in this thread.
This is a really bad bug. It's very damaging to this project. It's disappointing that it won't be fixed till next month when 2.0.2 is scheduled to be released.
I followed Lawn Bowler's link above and copied just the scalc.jar file into the help/en of the open office folder and a lot of the help topics now work, but some still don't. For example, there is still no help available on the IF function and as luck would have it, that's the function they were trying to use. (If is different in OO then in MS Excel - in OO, you seperate the True False conditions with ; instead of ,
Are there other files I need to get from there or should scalc.jar have fixed it completely? What are others experiencing when they've patched this?
Thanks! |

And a couple other books you might find interesting http://oooauthors.org/en
Actually most or all of the documentation (click on published chapters) can be very useful. _________________ jrkrideau
