is there any hint, that this feature may be changed, so that i can delete letters again with the "del" button, like i have been used to with older versions of open office.

No problem here. Delete and backspace both work as usual. There is no special keyboard definition needed, but check in Tools, Customise, Keyboard, to see that "del" has not be modified to perform some other function.
