I have one of those maticulous teachers who demands that every assignment be done by the books in the complete perfect format. I have been able to comply with all her demands so far, but i have been unable to find a way to have a header on every page except the first. All and any help would be greatly apreciated.
Never mind folks. Just saw the stickie above exactly about this. Man, i feel stupid.

Insert > Header > Default (or whatever your page style is) should do it. If. If you are using more than one page style, you will need to go to at least one page of each style and do Insert > Header > [page style].

Or you can go into the Styles and Formatting window and change the page styles there. Go to the Header tab in each page style you're using and select the checkbox to activate it.

Addendum: Oops, sorry, I misread the original question. I see someone else has now answered it correctly. Time for me to wake up a bit more and pay attention! Smile

Select your entire document by pressing CTRL-A.

Press F11, to bring up Stylelist and select the fourth icon in the toolbar at the top of the Stylelist. Right click on "Default", select "Modify", and then set up your header (and footer and anything else) as you wish for the default/normal page style for your document.

You may or may not have to actually turn on the header when you modify the Default style and may or may not have to double-click on the style to have it used throughout your document. This depends on how you previously created your document.

Your entire document should now be in the "Default" page style which you have customized to your desires.

Move your cursor to the first page. Then double click on "First Page" in the page styles. Your first page, but none of the other pages, will now be in "First Page" style. Probably the header will have vanished, as you wish. If by any chance it hasn't, modify the "First Page" style in the Stylelist to get rid of the header.

Once you get an essay just as you wish, you may want to blank most or all of the text and save it as a template under File -> Templates -> Save. (If you mostly use OOo Writer for essays in this format, you may want to make this your default template.)
