I'm used to MS Office Excel 2003, when I paint the background of some cells I don't see anymore the gridlines but in OO Calc even painting the background I still see the grid lines.
I want to see grid lines only where I don't paint the background.
Can you help me? Thanks
You can see what I mean here:

Tools / Options / Calc/ View / Toggle grid lines off.

But this solution toggles ALL the Grid Lines off, but what I want is what was showed in my picture in Excel, to see the grid lines only where I don't paint the background, but to be able to see them in the rest of the screen.
Is that possible in OO Calc? |

David toggling turns the grid lines on or off altogether.
This sounds like another place where creating a style would work to turn off the grid lines for just the selected cells.
Bjorg you might change the color of the Grid to the same color as the background of the new cells. That way it would show up normally but not in cells the same color.
Sorry I can not tell you how to do a style They are beyond me, but I see lots of threads about using them. |

But how do you change the grid color for ONLY a selection of cells? |

| Create a new style from the default style. On the background tab, select the background color you want. On the Borders tab, set all four borders under Line arrangement-Default. Set the line style to .05 pt, and select the same color as the background color. Applying this style to cells will change the background color and border to the same color, making the grid invisible for those cells. |

Thank you to you all.
The styles answer has lead me to a solution even easier and quickier.
This is the solution I have found:
First for a selection I paint the background in my choosed color, say Red.
Then for the selection right-click>Format cells>Tab Borders>
1) In Section "Line Arrangement" click on the second rightmost button (Set Outer Border and all inner lines) and then
2) In section "Line", in subsection "Color" I chosse again my coior, Red.
This way, used in combination with grid lines in the rest of the screen I get the easy-to-see look I like to give to some important sections of my spreadsheets.
Thanks to all. |

| This is exactly how you define a style. The difference is that your way has to be repeated every time you want to change the background of a cell. If you use a style, you only have to do it once. |
