Hi! I haven't really used any kind of shreadsheets before, but I now need to compare some data from some questionnaires I've handed out at school. The questionnaire contains questions about hight, weight, sex and then some yes/no questions on how much they execise and why they do so.
It looks like this:
Male: Female:
Weight:
Hight:
How much do you execise a week:
1-3 hours:
4-7:
8 and up:
I don't execise:
Why do you execise:
Because it feels good:
... And so on..
Now I want to compare weight with the amount of exesice or with the reasons they exesice and so on.... How couldt I go about this? How shouldt I enter the data in the sheet and what functions are relavant to use?
Thanks in advance!
I use NeoOffice 1.2 (a port of OpenOffice to Mac OSX) |

I think the first thing should be to have a look at the Getting Started GuideCh7 - Getting Started with Calc and the Calc Guide Ch2 - Entering, Editing, and Formatting Data to get a idea of what you can do with Calc
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/index.html
As for how to lay out the data I would suggest something like columns in this order
| Code: | ID Height Weight, Sex, Exercise Reason
1 178 72 M 1 A
2 143 62 F 2 B |
How to analyse the data is not really a Calc question but rather more of a analysis or statistics question. I would suggest some simple frequencies and summary statistics and perhaps a graph to begin with. I would suggest that you have a look at some basic statistics texts to get some idea of what you might need http://www.statcan.ca/english/edu/power/toc/contents.htm is not a bad place to start if you want some good information.
The other thing is that Calc is probably not the best tool to use to do what you want. A statistics and graphing package is likely to be much better. A fairly simple one to use (and it's free) which I think will do all that you would want and more is ViSta at http://forrest.psych.unc.edu/research/. _________________ jrkrideau
