A quick google shows that theres not much for doing this. If you have Illustrator, then you could use that but otherwise I can't find anything.

I have found this description:
Quote:
AI files can generally only be opened successfully using the Adobe Illustrator program and cannot be generally brought into other applications.

Doesn't seem promising but also what are you needing an AI file for?

My impression of vector drawing formats isn't that good at the moment, SVG doesn't seem that widely implemented compared to raster image formats like JPG for instance.

Yeah, I've googled the subject myself--with the same result. I need .ai for use with a T-shirt printer. They accept vector graphics in .cdr, .ai, or .fh formats only. It's not a big deal, since they also accept raster image formats, but I thought I give it a shot.

Thank you, anyway!

Kind regards,
Dmitri

I gave up looking for a SVG -> WMF converter, and I think a SVG -> AI converter is also impossible to find. Pretty annoying because I love Inkscape but I need the graphics in programs that doesnt support SVG.

I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned Ghostscript, or, more specifically, ps2edit. I'm letting everyone off with a warning this time, but next time you'll get a stern finger-waving.

Edited to add skencil Smile

I tried it (PS2edit) together with many other available freeware tools and they were all spectacular failures. Sad
