i finally figured out how to install stinkin' X11 with Tiger. there are 2 options:
1. if you have the Tiger DVD, it's on that -- Apple claims it's easy to find. i don't know; i don't have that disk.
2. if, like me, you have the Mac OS X install disks (mine came with my new iBook), you need to install it directly from Disk 1. do not view as icons, the default view; the installer is easier to find if you switch to columns view. navigate to System > Installation > Packages > X11user.pkg. install as per usual.
you will now find X11 in Applications > Utilities. launching OpenOffice opens X11 and then opens OO. bliss.
hope this helps. |

| OO launches X11 for you, so you just have to wait until both are open. seems to take about 20 seconds, slower than M$ but worth every second. |
