Hello,

in my document I only want to use paragraph- and numbering-styles to define spaces between text (no manual line-breaks). The space between paragraphs should always be the same (0,6 cm). Unfortunately I can not achive to format a list as a block that has a defined space before and after the block, but not between the list items. They should be single-line-spaced, Setting the space before the list paragraph will also enlarge the linespace within the list, what does not give a visual expression of a contiguous block. Of cause I have to set a Return in order to get a new list item, but this should not reflect the list itself.

Does anyone know, how this can be achieved?

Regards
Harry

Because a numbered list is a series of separate paragraphs you can not apply a style with space above or below to the entire list without affecting all of it paragraphs. You could however apply a space above style to the first list paragraph and a space after style to the last one.

You could use three paragraph styles in the list, one for the first paragraph with spacing above the paragraph, one for the last paragraph with spacing below the paragraph and one for the other paragraphs with no spacing above or below the paragraph. Use the same numbering style for all three paragraph styles.

Hello JohnV, hello BillP,

you're right, this would work. Unfortunately the solution I'm looking for is not for me but for the users of an Add-On I'm developing. For these users it would be too complicated, assigning three different styles to a simple list.

It is a little bit confusing for me, that until now, no one seems to care about this issue. A list is a block of contiguous information. So it should optically be presented as a block, what means that the spaces between the list-items have to be smaller than the spaces before and after this list.

What is missing in Writer is a separate space property that handles the space between repeated paragraph-styles. This should conceptually be possible, because OOo-Writer already reflects previous paragraph-styles when interpreting their appearance: If you define a border for a special paragraph, this border is continued as long as you continue using the same paragraph-style. Only changing the paragraph style will close the border. Yepp, something like that is needed regarding spaces! Maybe something for the core-team.

Maybe you could use the borders to create the space. Just make the borders white instead of black.

Hello BillP,

I checked this and ... it works!

Still, this is a workarround in my eyes. Spaces between paragraphs should completely be adjustable by their origin parameters. Anyway it is a solution.

Thank you.
