Hi,
I'm the systems admin at a company that is converting most of its staff to Open Office. However, working with existing documents in all apps seem to have a few conversion problems, which I am wondering if there is a fix for.
The main problem is trying to save them in Word format once the changes are done. We have some tables in the one document we are working with that the text is rotated 90 degrees. Once you save it in Word Format, it loses its formatting, but if you save it in open Office you don't.
There are few other problems, which I will list in different threads as I find them. However, has any other company gone through this change and how did you find working with existing Word and other Office documents? |

Because the Word format is not an open format, there are some problems which cannot be fixed. Several minor problems have been reported in this forum.

See above.
Wouldn't it be possible to save the once converted files in an OpenOffice.org format?
With kind regards

Tough.
As per hol.sten's post above, there is a major interoperability problem with MS Office, because the MS formats are completely proprietary and not available in the public domain.
It would be extremely easy for MS to add a "Save as OOo writer" option to Word because the OOo writer format is completely open, but the other way round is much more difficult. And there's no real pressure on MS to do that, because it would only make it easier for people to move away from their products.
So unfortunately not good news, I suppose, unless someone out there can contribute a more constructive answer. |
