I have a problem with a pesistent error recovery message that comes up each time I load any of the OO applications. I acknowledge the message to start autorecovery and it tells me that there is a problem with a Base document (there isn't). I go through the process of autorecovery and it fails but then opens the application I selected in the first place. This happens every time I use OO. I've even tried re-installing OO version 2.03 but this hasn't solved the problem. Does anyone have any ideas? _________________ Tolly |

Under Windows (English), you could delete the files
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Recovery.xcu
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\cache\org.openoffice.Office.Recovery.dat
along with the entire contents of
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2\user\backup\
The path names may be different under a non-English version of Windows, and under Linux, these files will be located in a subdirectory called .openoffice.org in your home directory.
EDIT: Deleting Recovery.xcu will reset the autosave interval back to its default value of 15 minutes. This can be changed under Tools | Options | Load/Save | General. _________________ OpenOffice Enterprise Deployment & Management

I use open office under Red Hat 9.0
2 observations:
I was able to view OpenOffice.org2\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Recovery.xcu
in a text editor and carefully reset the offending entries.
The backup folder was empty.
Now the moment of truth! |

Hi
I am having a similar problem. Please see my thread here > Document Recovery _________________

I've had a look inside my Recovery.xcu file.
Can you remember exactly what you did when you "carefully reset the offending entries"? |

Its easiest just to delete the file. This will reset the autosave interval back to its default value of 15 minutes, but this can easily be changed under Tools | Options | Load/Save | General _________________ OpenOffice Enterprise Deployment & Management

| I have the same issue. I have deleted that directory, uninstalled OpenOffice, and reinstalled it, to find EXACTLY the same problem. On the computer in question, it refused to even print without crashing. I think something else is at work here besides the recovery log getting messed up. |

Further information:
HP a810n Desktop
Windows XP Home
Athlon 64 3300+ 2.4 GHz
512 MB RAM
I hope that helps to solve this |

That's not the same problem. The orignal poster was not having trouble with OOo crashing. He was having trouble with the document recovery wizard always appearing, even though OOo had not crashed. _________________ OpenOffice Enterprise Deployment & Management

re: pulsifer's response
Thanks for the tip, I've passed it on to a customer.
I have to wonder though, what the hell was the creator of that directory structure thinking? an 'openoffice' folder deep inside a folder structure specifically for openoffice? Did they think about what a user who isn't particularly confident with managing folders would do if they had to try and fix this themselves?
Perhaps they should have included a few circular symlink/junction points for some extra fun and games... _________________ OO.org (whatever the latest release version is) ~ PC spec ~ http://www.mikeymike.org.uk |
