FYI:

I have just uploaded a new macro to OOoMacros. It is named "X-Ray Tool" and it allows OOo Basic programmers to display the properties, methods, services and interfaces provided by an object. If the property or method being examined is an API object, it can also be analysed by X-Ray. If it is a simple variable, the value will be displayed. If the SDK is installed, X-Ray can display the relevant page in a web browser.

I've only had a very brief preliminary play with it, but it looks pretty useful.

I've just tried it. It looks wonderful. It is a tool that I have imagined and wished for. I wish I had this when I first looked at OOo last February.

I truly believe that this tool will accellerate the development of OOo macros, and the success and adoption of OOo.

So how did you come across such a great tool? Is the user who wrote it active on OOoForum, or elsewhere?

I still haven't had a chance to look at it properly, but my first impressions are that it is indeed a wonderful tool Smile Did you notice it's version 2? Version 1 evidently passed us by completely Embarassed

Believe it or not, I came across it when the author e-mailed it to me. I assume he found the OOoMacros site, saw the note saying that submissions are welcome, and hit the e-mail link. I don't know if the author is active on this forum, the name didn't seem familiar.

Based on the facts of your account of how you got this tool, it is evident to me that...

OOoMacros.org is a valuable link to cross-pollinate code between OOoForum and some other unknown beehive of OOo related activity. Such cross-pollination is beneficial to both communities.

Absolutely. Only problem is, my head is currently so big I might not get out of the door Smile

The author of X-Ray has informed me that version 1 was only available in French, which probably explains how we missed it. He also said

I'm just finishing translation of another tool which creates the xcu file for an addon. I'll send it to you.

I thought that might be of interest to you. I seem to remember reading posts from you recently that suggested that you were interested in writing add-ons. Obviously I'll put it on OOoMacros as soon as I get it, and I may post an FYI post here.

I'm very interested in the XCU files or whatever other information you obtain from the french author or group of users. If the author speaks french, writes tools in french, and maybe participates in an OOo community in french, that is why I / we missed such a tool before.

What do you call someone who speaks three languages?

(Answer: trilingual)

What do you call someone who speaks two languages?

(Answer: bilingual)

What do you call someone who speaks one language?

(Answer: American)

I've got more to say, but I'm going to continue in a new thread Musings about the Configuration Manager.

Other speak perhaps more languages but how. (I only speak for me)
I suppose that english people have difficulties to read my posts.
It's more easy for me to read than to speak or to write.

This is exactly that. And also, being french it would be a shame not to help people of my native language.
For Xray and the tool for addons I decided to translate it for others on the OOo community.
But I can't translate all. I'm sure there must be someone who learnt french at school. He/she could browse the french site http://fr.openoffice.org/Documentation/Index.html and translate what he/she considers valuable.
