I am trying to format a cell to display a date as follows:

Aug-18-2006(Fri)

I created a user defined format with the following:

MMM-D-YY(NN)

If I enter any date into the other than 8/4/2006 and hit tab, I get 4 # (hash) symbols. If I enter 8/4/2006, I get the correct result: Aug-18-2006(Fri)

I have tried this in Windows OOo and the Novell verison on Suse Linux 2.x versions.

Any ideas?

bucketshop:

The reason you are seeing, the
Quote:
4 # (hash) symbols
is . . . the result is too 'narrow' to fit into the cell.

Since 8/4/2006 compared to 8/18/2006 ( one more digit for the day of the month ) is too wide.

So, to 'fix' the width of the column . . . place your cursor at the top . . . if, for example you entered the date in Column A . . . place the mouse over the A, and, right click it . . . so you see . . .

Optimal Column Width...

and, select this. That will adjust the width of the column so each cell may be viewed.

I hope this helps, please be sure to let me / us know.
