Yes, there is. My 'Macro Library How-To' from OOoMacros (http://www.ooomacros.org/files.php?type=doc#MacroLibraryHow-To) includes instructions (with a screen shot) showing how to assign a macro to a toolbar button.
I've just noticed that I haven't included in that document how to assign a macro to a keyboard shortcut. I'll add that when I get time, but in the meantime, open OOo Help, go to the Find tab, and search for keyboard shortcut. Top of the list should be Keyboard. That has instructions for assigning keys to macros.

As far as I can tell, it has no viruses. It was written on two machines, one a Linux box and the other a Windows 98SE box with up-to-date virus scanner. So you should be safe.
As an aside, if you don't have a virus scanner, you can get AVG (free for personal use) from www.grisoft.com
