|

Greetings,
I have the zip file for the resume template at the OODocs site. The file has 4 xml files in it. How do I open these in Writer so that they are more than marked up code?
Thanks,
Jim |

What are the extensions of these templates? Usually, OOo writer templates have the extension .stw. OOo should display templates like any document. You shouldn't see the underlying markup unless you downloaded something else. Where did you download these templates? Try this URL:

Hi and thanks for your quick response. I went to the link and downloaded the Resume template. Contained in the zip file are 5 files, all with the XML extension.
Any thoughts,

| Okay. I think I know what's happening here. You're downloading the .stw file and saving it as a zip file. When saved as a zip file, it does decompress and what you get is the underlying xml files. The remedy is to save it as a .stw file. Your browser should give you the option of saving it under the name of your choice. Save it with the extension .stw. Or if you've already downloaded it, just rename the file to resume.stw and you should be all set. Good luck! |

This is quite interesting. What it means is that OOo docs are compressed by default. Perhaps this is why the performance of OOo can be lacking at times. Compressing/decompressing on the fly can take quite a bit of time especially if the files are large.
Not sure this is the most elegant solution for managing file size but I guess it's the direction the developers have taken. |
